Scott Boras isnt happy with the Orioles

The Nationals and Orioles have quite a bit in common. They share a cable television network and, if traffic is decent, you can get from one stadium to the other on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway in roughly an hour.

The two clubs also have a considerable number of important players on their respective rosters that are represented by agent Scott Boras, who wasted no time after Monday’s Orioles’ win letting the Birds’ management know he’s angry.

And you wouldn’t like Scott Boras when he’s angry.

Seems the Orioles drew Boras’s ire when they demoted lefty starter Wei-Yin Chen to their Class A affiliate  in Frederick, this after Chin had tossed eight scoreless innings in Baltimore’s 4-0 win over the Phillies.

The win boosted Chen’s record to 3-4, while lowering his ERA to a crisp 2.89, one season after he went 16-6.

“This is a 16-game winner who on [Monday] threw eight scoreless innings and has a sub-3.00 ERA,” Boras told the Baltimore Sun about Chen. “To disrupt a season like this for a pitcher of Chen’s status and to disrupt his routine, which is so important for a starting pitcher, is grossly irregular. I’ve never seen anything like this in the sport of baseball in my 30 years of doing this.”

Guess who else is not happy? The pitcher himself.

I am disappointed my routine is being interrupted. I will continue to work hard and do my best to perform. Thank you for all the support!

Orioles Manager Buck Showalter said Chen, who can be a free agent at season’s end, complained of fatigue after his June 10 start and that he pitches better with more rest. It should also be noted that Chen is one of the few Birds’ pitchers who can be demoted without first having to clear waivers, a fact that Boras conceded to the Sun.

Chen’s roster spot was taken by Chris Parmelee, who was called up from Class AAA Norfolk and had four hits and two home runs in Tuesday’s rout of the Phillies.

By the way, Boras’s clients on the Orioles roster include closer Zach Britton, first baseman Chris Davis and catcher Matt Weiters. Oh, and Parmelee. And, in case you’ve forgotten, Boras is the agent for Nationals’ pitchers Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasberg, outfielders Bryce Harper and Jayson Werth, third baseman Anthony Rendon and second baseman Danny Espinosa.
